UK Travel Warning to LGBT Citizens Is Cheap Political Theater

The Associated Press has reported that the UK government has warned it’s gay and lesbian citizens about traveling to North Carolina and Mississippi.  In part the advisory warned that “attitudes toward LGBT people differ widely across the United States.”  If the UK is going to issue warnings to its citizens because of people’s ‘attitudes’ they should issue warnings about going to areas with lots of Muslims like London.

However, according to the Guardian British Muslims have zero tolerance toward homosexuality.  They found  that  “none of the 500 British Muslims interviewed believed that homosexual acts were morally acceptable.” No mention was made about governmental warnings to the British LGBT community about avoiding Muslim neighborhoods over these ‘attitudes’.

This isn’t the first time the British government ignored the rafter in their eye.  According to the Express UK, at least 1,400 girls as young as 11 were groomed and sexually exploited over a 14 year period.  The local police and government failed to act because they were afraid of being labeled as racist.  I don’t seem to remember a warning issued to US citizens traveling there to keep an eye on their children because the police there would do nothing to protect them.

Instead of protecting their citizens ,they would rather make a political statement about something that doesn’t and won’t affect its citizens. I feel that it would behoove the US Department of State to issue an advisory to the UK’s LGBT community that their lifestyle might not be acceptable to its fastest growing demographic.
