Trump Proposal To Send Illegal Aliens To Sanctuary Cities Is All About Fairness

The Washington Post has reported that Trump administration officials proposed transporting detained immigrants to so called sanctuary cities.

This proposal was first floated on this page at the beginning of the Trump administration. The Post’s story portrays this as an effort to “punish Democrats — including (Nancy) Pelosi — by busing ICE detainees into their districts before their release.”

ICE’s acting deputy director responded when asked about the proposal “not sure how paying to transport aliens to another location to release them — when they can be released on the spot — is a justified expenditure.” So its standard operating procedure to just release illegal aliens into the country but its only bad if you try to send them to parts of the country that ostensibly want them?

The border states that are run by Republicans surely don’t want to be inundated with thousands of people who put tremendous stress on their social systems. In effect they are being punished for their proximity to the southern border.

In response to this unwanted burden placed upon them I’ve written another proposal on how they might be able to stop it.

Why would the media and Democrats consider the transportation of aliens to their districts a punishment though? We are told by them that as a nation of immigrants we are only made stronger by immigration.

Some Democrats have even said that illegal aliens are more American that those trying to stop them. Also, as sanctuary cities refuse to hand over prisoners wanted by ICE in their local prisons so as to prevent their deportation they really don’t have any moral standing to oppose this policy.

What’s more is that this proposed policy was in direct response to Democratic obstruction to enforcement of our immigration laws. According to the Washington Post the White House told ICE that the plan was “intended to alleviate a shortage of detention space but also served to send a message to Democrats.”

First let’s get some background. Democrats initiated DACA which has led to a surge in illegal aliens crossing the border. Then when Trump was elected president they have opposed building any type of barrier on the border to help stem the tide. Then earlier this year the Trump administration sought funding for 52,000 detention beds but Democrats wanted to cap the number at 16,000. Eventually a compromise was reached on this issue but the amount of beds is still not enough to keep up with the onslaught at our border.

All of this obstruction has had the effect of forcing the release of thousands of illegal aliens into the country. Which is what the Democrats wanted. Rep Lucille Roybal-Allard wrote in a tweet that “A cap on ICE detention beds will force the Trump administration to prioritize deportation for criminals and people who pose real security threats, not law-abiding immigrants who are contributing to our country.

Well Rep Roybal-Allard got what she wanted. The Trump administration was forced to prioritize its deportations. They just wanted to put the burden that comes with releasing the non criminal aliens into the country on those responsible for said burden. Sounds fair to me.
